Update from Khartoum
Dear Friends,
We came to Khartoum with 2 major objectives, 1) to study Arabic and 2) to administer the guest house. Below is a brief update on how things are going.
Arabic Studies
*We are students at CLIK - Catholic Language Institute of Khartoum
*Great teachers - one of them a Russian with 10 yrs in Sudan
*Starting to settle in and grind out some studies. It's tough, but we are getting it.
Guest House
*Going well - long term residents arriving in time for school to begin(most of them are teachers at the Nile Valley Academy)
*Chris handling finance and maintenance
*Bev managing staff and bookings
*Bev training a new Assistant Manager (Sudanese woman)
Other Ministry
*We're very happily hosting SIM Sudan Director Laiu Fachhai and past director Don Stillwell
*Many meetings with national church leaders and partner ministries
*Chris preached in an Arabic church Friday night (title: Speaking the Language of the People)
Life
*When working on a door Chris's hand slipped, and he put it through a glass window. It required a trip to the emergency room, but God was with us because we had enough money and a car, and a great hospital was nearby. Lots and lots of stitches were required, but it is healing nicely. Check our website to see the nasty photos.
*With a good internet connection, we've managed to revamp our website. We want people to be able to see God's working in our lives so clearly. We must acknowledge the help of Libby DeMoss, Chris's first cousin, in publishing our emails and pictures and being our point person for the last year. Thanks also to Yun Wang for his help in updating the site. Yun, your skills are amazing!
Praises
*Nice food and lots of new friends in Khartoum
*Beverly's healthy pregnancy thus far
*Endurance of the heat
*Chris's hand healing quickly
Prayer Requests
*Please petition the Lord of Hosts for reconciliation between 2 groups of pastors. An executive committee in the national church is experiencing many broken relationships, anger, and jealousy. Laiu and Don showed tremendous bravery and strength in holding reconciliation meetings. A beginning was made, but please ask the Lord to complete the work he began in these pastors.
*SIM Sudan is leading the way in recruiting and sending non-Western missionaries. Please pray for a Kenyan couple as they trust the Lord to provide a sending church in Kenya.
*We need wisdom to decide whether to stay in Khartoum 2 weeks longer in order to synchronize with the arrival of our colleagues.
